Solar DNI Assessment

The solar radiation network is a network of solar measuring stations with the objective of assessing the mean annual availability values of solar resource in southern Portugal, with particular focus on the Alentejo region.

The network comprises 13 measuring stations equipped to measure DNI (Direct Normal Irradiation), GHI (Global Horizontal Irradiation) and DHI (Diffuse Horizontal Irradiation).

Equipment:  A typical station consists of a solar tracker, two pyranometers to measure DHI and GHI, and a pyrheliometer to measure DNI. The solar tracker device is equiped with a shading ball assembly to shade the pyranometer that measures DHI.
