The Futuretech_H2 project, co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain–Portugal Programme (POCTEP) 2021–2027, has successfully concluded the third stop of its cross-border Roadshow, dedicated to promoting and developing technologies related to green hydrogen.
After three intensive days - February 10, 11 and 12 - the Portuguese municipality of Sines has become a key reference point for outreach, innovation and public engagement around this crucial energy vector for the future.
Institutional event with high-level institutional and academic representationThe institutional event, held on February 12 at Sines City Hall, marked the closing of this stage of the Roadshow and included the participation of:
-
Álvaro Beijinha, Mayor of Sines.
-
João Maria Grilo, President of the Board of ADRAL – Alentejo Regional Development Agency.
-
Jesús Delgado, FUTURETECH_H2 Project Coordinator at the Metal Entrepreneurs Federation (FEDEME).
-
Representatives from the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre and the University of Évora.
-
As well as numerous guests, experts and organizations linked to the hydrogen sector.
During the session, the project’s progress and the potential of green hydrogen as a driver of economic and industrial transformation in the Alentejo–Andalusia region were presented.
Sines, the third stop of a five-stage RoadshowFollowing its stops in Seville and Huelva, the Roadshow delivered a comprehensive demonstration programme in Sines. After this successful stage, the itinerary will continue in Algeciras (Cádiz) before concluding in Évora.
Technologies on display: mobility and real hydrogen-based solutionsOver the course of three days, attendees — including more than 200 students from local schools — had the opportunity to discover several technologies first-hand:
-
Toyota Mirai (1st and 2nd generation): a pioneering hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle whose only emission is water vapour.
-
Summit XL surveillance robot, equipped with advanced sensors, LiFePO4 batteries, hydrogen storage and a fuel cell system.
-
Portable hydrogen dispenser, capable of performing safe refuelling at 350 bar, particularly useful in urban and port environments.
A total of six partners from the regions of Alentejo (Portugal) and Andalusia (Spain) form the consortium established in November 2023 to implement the activities carried out within the framework of this project, which is now entering its final phase.
Specifically, the Advanced Center for Aerospace Technologies (CATEC), ADRAL, the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, the University of Évora, the Nao Victoria Foundation and FEDEME (as lead partner) are the organisations responsible for bringing this project to life. The initiative focuses on developing the green hydrogen value chain in this cross-border area while promoting the potential and capabilities of this energy sector as an industry of the future.
Futuretech_H2 has a total budget of €1,366,564.90 and will run until 31 March 2026.
