The European project FUTURETECH_H2, co-funded by the Programa Interreg VI-A Espanha-Portugal (POCTEP) 2021-2027, is progressing according to schedule with the launch of tailored transformation projects for green hydrogen in ten SMEs located in the cross-border area between Andalusia and Alentejo.
August 2025 marked the start of technical visits to the selected companies, with the aim of conducting a strategic assessment to help them understand their potential for diversification into this energy vector and their possible integration into the green hydrogen value chain.
A key initiative to identify opportunities in the industry of the futureThe activity aims to analyse the current positioning of these companies and identify specific opportunities in the green hydrogen sector through:
-
An operational and strategic diagnosis, with particular focus on business lines with transformation potential;
-
The development of a strategic process roadmap including short-, medium- and long-term actions;
-
The identification of available funding sources to implement this process roadmap;
-
The promotion of cross-border collaboration between companies on both sides of the border.
The process is structured in three phases: identification of participating companies, strategic diagnosis, and collaborative development of a tailored transformation plan. At the end of the process, each company will receive a detailed document outlining the resources and steps required to transition to green hydrogen.
Institutional participation and leadershipThe initiative is led by a consortium of entities including FEDEME, together with the Centro Avanzado de Tecnologías Aeroespaciales (CATEC), ADRAL, Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre, Universidade de Évora and Fundação Nao Victoria, in collaboration with the Centro Nacional do Hidrogénio.
The project aims to position the cross-border area between Andalusia and Alentejo as a benchmark in innovation and sustainability, supporting SMEs in their energy transition and contributing to industrial development linked to green hydrogen.
About FUTURETECH_H2The FUTURETECH_H2 project is co-funded by the European Union through the Programa Interreg VI-A Espanha-Portugal (POCTEP) 2021-2027 and will run until 31 December 2025.
With a total budget of €1,366,564.90, FUTURETECH_H2 is being implemented by a consortium of six partners from the Alentejo (Portugal) and Andalusia (Spain) regions — CATEC, ADRAL, Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre, Universidade de Évora, Fundação Nao Victoria and FEDEME — with the objective of developing the green hydrogen value chain in this cross-border area, promoting and showcasing, through a range of planned actions, the strengths and capabilities of this energy vector as an industry of the future.
