A total of 10 companies located in the cross-border region between Andalusia (Spain) and Alentejo (Portugal) can benefit — free of charge — from the implementation of tailored transformation projects to enter the green hydrogen sector. These projects aim to provide a strategic diagnosis of each company’s potential within this sector and its value chain.
As part of the calendar of activities under the European project FUTURETECH-H2, which seeks to promote and raise awareness about the benefits and capabilities of green hydrogen as an industry of the future, these individualised transformation projects are designed to demonstrate to participating companies the business opportunities available within this emerging energy vector. Green hydrogen is set to play a key role in leading the ecological transition and addressing climate change in the cross-border region between Andalusia and Alentejo.
The ultimate goal of this activity — led by reputable organisations such as the Federation of Metal Entrepreneurs (FEDEME), CATEC – Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies, Adral, the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (IPP), and the University of Évora — is to ensure that all participating industrial companies (a maximum of 10 — five from Spain and five from Portugal), which will receive these free transformation projects, gain the following insights:
-
An operational and strategic diagnosis of the company’s potential business lines within the green hydrogen sector;
-
A strategic process map detailing short-, medium- and long-term actions for transitioning to green hydrogen. A key element will be identifying cross-border collaboration opportunities for project development;
-
Available funding sources to implement the proposed process map.
Companies interested in taking part in this activity and receiving a free, tailored transformation project must meet the following criteria:
-
Be a SME;
-
Be located in the cross-border region of Andalusia (Spain) – Alentejo (Portugal);
-
Operate in one of the industrial sectors with potential for transformation towards green hydrogen*;
-
Have a genuine interest in the green hydrogen sector (e.g., medium- to long-term diversification, integrating into the hydrogen value chain).
These free transformation projects, carried out within the framework of the FUTURETECH-H2 project, will be implemented during the second half of 2025, following several work phases:
-
Identification of the participating companies;
-
Assessment and diagnosis of each company, evaluating strategic, financial, operational, and technological capacity for green hydrogen transition;
-
Joint development of the process map, based on the results of the diagnosis.
Once these phases are completed, the project will conclude with the preparation of a final document outlining the resources available to implement the actions proposed in the process map for each company.
This is undoubtedly a unique and high-value opportunity for cross-border companies in Andalusia and Alentejo that are genuinely interested in making the leap into the green hydrogen sector and becoming part of its value chain.

FUTURETECH-H2The FUTURETECH-H2 Project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain–Portugal (POCTEP) 2021–2027 Programme, and will run until 31 December 2025.
With a total budget of €1,366,564.90, the project is being carried out by a consortium of six partners from the Alentejo (Portugal) and Andalusia (Spain) regions: CATEC – Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies, Adral, Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, University of Évora, Fundación Nao Victoria, and FEDEME. The aim is to develop the green hydrogen value chain in this cross-border region by promoting and showcasing the potential and advantages of this energy vector as a key industry of the future.
