The FUTURETECH H2 project, part of a co-financed collaboration under the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) 2021–2027 programme and led by the Federation of Metal Entrepreneurs (FEDEME), focuses on technological development and training within the green hydrogen industry. As part of this ambitious initiative, IDEA Ingeniería has developed a next-generation Digital Twin, an advanced simulator that marks a decisive step for the industry, enabling immersive training and process optimization in a safe, virtual environment.
The main goal of FUTURETECH H2 is to establish green hydrogen as a key energy vector and provide industrial companies with the tools to develop sustainable business models in the cross-border region. To achieve this, a strong collaboration has been built among partners aiming to boost the competitiveness of sector companies, optimize the hydrogen supply chain, and create new growth opportunities.
A Digital Twin for Industry TransformationThis Digital Twin allows professionals to explore all aspects of green hydrogen production, storage, and distribution. Through a simulation platform that recreates the operations of a hydrogen plant, users can experience real-life scenarios — from managing complex systems to making decisions in test situations.
A standout feature of this tool is the ability to connect to a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), enabling real-time process simulation and complete virtualization. As such, the digital twin is not only a learning platform but also a virtual lab for thorough testing, contributing to the development of critical skills and knowledge in the field.
H2 Plant Simulator: Comprehensive Training for ProfessionalsThe simulator offers a training environment with numerous educational and operational benefits. Its design aims to enhance understanding and mastery of each phase in hydrogen production, from raw materials to the final product, as well as the operation of key systems and equipment. Its training capabilities include:
-
Understanding hydrogen production processes: Students follow each phase, internalizing essential physical and chemical principles.
-
Mastery of complex operational systems: Users operate electrolyzers, compressors, storage tanks, and control systems.
-
Problem-solving and decision-making: Through hypothetical scenarios, users face simulated challenges in real time, building analytical and decision-making skills.
-
Operations optimization: The simulator allows experimentation with different configurations and strategies to maximize production and energy efficiency.
