Last week, the University of Évora hosted the Science and Technology Week, an event that brought together researchers, students, and public institution representatives to promote scientific knowledge and strengthen the connection between academia and society.

On Friday, November 22nd, the celebrations culminated in the National Day of Scientific Culture and IIFA Day, held at the Alentejo Science and Technology Park (PACT). The Chair for Renewable Energies stood out in a program filled with activities highlighting the essential role of science and innovation in sustainable development.

The morning began with a debate on National Science Policy, featuring the Secretary of State for Science, Ana Paiva, the Rector of the University of Évora, Hermínia Vilar, the President of the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, Luís Loures, and the President of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, Maria de Fátima Carvalho. The discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities for strengthening science in Portugal, emphasizing the importance of collaborative strategies to address the sector’s constraints.

The debate was followed by a visit to the stands of various research units and chairs from the University of Évora, where participants had the opportunity to learn about innovative projects and technological solutions developed by the institution’s teams.

In the afternoon, a session was held to present the projects and activities of the University of Évora’s Research Units. This provided a platform to showcase the university’s work and foster the exchange of ideas between researchers and other attendees. The event concluded with a networking coffee, underscoring the value of informal interactions in creating new partnerships and scientific collaborations.

The Science and Technology Week reaffirmed the University of Évora’s commitment to advancing science and innovation, highlighting the vital role of academic research in the social, economic, and environmental progress of the region and the country.
