CIES 2020
Five CER-UÉ papers at CIES 2020

The Renewable Energies Chair - University of Évora (CER-UÉ, Portuguese acronym) will present five papers and two posters at the 17th Iberian Congress and the 13th Ibero-American Solar Energy Congress, that will take place online, between the 3rd and 5th November 2020.

This presence of CER-UÉ at the event addresses some projects and key-areas of its research, namely the solar process heat for industry, concentrated solar power, photovoltaic solar energy and Fresnel collectors technology, as well as the solar DNI assessment infrastructure network, and the training and capacity building activities.

The communications within the Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP) and Integrating National Research Agendas on Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (INSHIP) projects, with the titles “SHIP Project” and “Solar Process Heat: Competitiveness and the need for financing models” address the solar process heat for industry, from a perspective of technological recognition and financing models that can stimulate the implementation of these technologies in the industrial sector. The communication “ALFR-Alentejo: Experimental demonstration of an Advanced Linear Fresnel Reflector prototype in Évora” presents this new project, which aims at testing this technology, establishing comparisons of results with numerical models and other technologies like the cylindrical-parabolic.

In the field of photovoltaics, the communication “Development and Validation of the Repair Process for Photovoltaic Modules on Site” addresses an intervention initiated in the GRECO - Fostering a Next Generation of European Photovoltaic Society through Open Science project, which aims to establish repair procedures, in order to minimize production losses and costs of transport of the modules. The ENBRAIN - Building capacity in Renewable and sustAINable ENergy for Libya project encompasses another type of intervention in society, through training and capacity building activities in the area of renewable energies, aimed at Libyan Higher Education teachers and researchers, as referred to in the poster “ENBRAIN Project: Transfer of capacities in the area of energies for Libya ”.

In the area of infrastructures, the poster "DNI Alentejo - Evaluation of the average annual availability of Normal Direct Irradiation in Alentejo" identifies the results of an academic research work, carried out using the solar radiation monitoring network.

Finally, the communication “INIESC: National Research Infrastructure for Research on Solar Energy Concentration” allows to know the research developed within this infrastructure, directed by CER-UÉ, in partnership with the National Energy and Geology Laboratory (LNEG), which is part of the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures.
