RNIE with updated version
INIESC integrates National Roadmap for Infrastructures of Strategic Interest

The National Infrastructure for Research on Concentrated Solar Energy (INIESC), coordinated by the Renewable Energies Chair - University of Évora (CER-UÉ), in partnership with the National Energy and Geology Laboratory, IP (LNEG), is one of 56 Portuguese infrastructures that are part of the National Roadmap for Infrastructures of Strategic Interest (RNIE).

INIESC, which is one of the four research infrastructures in the Energy area that appear in the updated version of the Roadmap, is focused on thermal conversion of solar energy at medium and high temperatures, with the objective of developing technologies for Concentrating Solar Energy. Based on these concentration systems, it also addresses their potential applications in various fields such as desalination or water treatment, process heat for industry, thermoelectric production, and solar fuels, with the promotion of technology transfer to industry.

The University of Évora (UÉ) is part of the consortia of seven national research infrastructures of strategic interest, being the coordinating institution in two of these infrastructures. CER-UÉ is responsible for INIESC, while the HERCULES Laboratory, coordinates E-RIHS.PT infrastructure. Figures that make UÉ one of the eight universities in the country responsible for coordinating more than one research infrastructure.

The update of the National Roadmap for Infrastructures of Strategic Interest includes the inclusion of 16 new infrastructures, integrated in April 2020, corresponding to an expansion from 40 to 56 research infrastructures, organized in six thematic domains: Energy, Environment, Health and Food, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Social and Cultural Innovation, and Digital Infrastructures.
